Some things just don't seem to make any sense in the world. Last week, we lost an amazing woman in a tragic accident.
That woman was Marcy Handshaw, mom, business owner, Rotarian, and philanthropist. If you didn't know Marcy, you missed out on one of the most warm-hearted, funny, inspiring women you'd ever meet. If you did know Marcy, you know that mere words could never describe her spirit. The fact that over 500 people attended her funeral might give you some insight into how many people she touched with that spirit.
I had the pleasure of working with Marcy when we got our new office 3 years ago. She consulted with us on the layout of the rooms, the color scheme (red, purple and green walls!!) and every little detail need to make our big blank space a welcoming refuge for our weary clients. I consider it a blessing that I get to work daily in a reminder of Marcy's talent.
I also got to work with Marcy at Innsbrook Rotary, where she donated time to an endless list of projects. Whenever something needed doing, she was there to step up. Never mind that she had 3 kids, all of whom were active in sports, a thriving business and a numerous other charities she worked on. As they say when you want something done ask a busy person.
Marcy passed away last week after a valiant battle against the head injury she received in a car accident. It was a fluke wreck and things just went the wrong way for her. As her best friend said at her funeral, perhaps God just needed someone to redecorate heaven and figured Marcy was the best one for the job. It is the only explanation that makes sense.
If you have a moment this week, whether you knew Marcy or not, say a little prayer for her husband, Harry, and her kids Paige, Danielle and Cody. They've been through a lot and things aren't going to get any easier in the short run.
And go home and hug your kids, kiss your spouse and take your dog on that walk you've been promising. God might just need you to do some other work soon.
Thank you for such a beautiful touching article on my sister-in-law Marcy. You said it all with such love and caring.Only God knows why and he probably does need some redecorating:)and got the BEST there is. God bless you and all that read this.<>< Bernie Clark
